Erbil begins early preparations for November’s federal elections
ERBIL — Authorities in Erbil have begun early preparations for Iraq’s upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for Nov. 11, with the city’s election security committee convening Wednesday to coordinate planning and logistics.
According to a statement from the Erbil Governorate, the meeting was held under the supervision of the governor and included representatives from the local office of Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission.
The statement said the meeting aimed to “establish a plan and make preparations for a smooth election process for the Iraqi parliament, ensuring voters can cast their ballots freely and in a stable environment across Erbil Governorate.”
Discussions covered logistical and security arrangements for both public and special polling stations. Responsibilities were also assigned to local security forces, civil defense units, and service departments to implement necessary measures on election days.
The governorate said it remains committed to supporting IHEC’s operations in Erbil and ensuring that the electoral process proceeds “peacefully, securely, and successfully.”
According to available data as of early this month, 71 political coalitions and parties have completed registration. IHEC has also extended the deadline for political coalitions to register their participation until May 14.
