Sulaymaniyah authorities seize over 800 kilograms of spoiled walnuts intended for sweets production

SULAYMANIYAH — Authorities in Sulaymaniyah have seized more than 800 kilograms of spoiled walnuts intended for use in sweets production and warned local factories against using expired products.

According to a report from municipal inspection teams in Sulaymaniyah, “During ongoing inspections of markets and food establishments, 817 kilograms of spoiled walnuts were seized.”

The investigation began when inspectors discovered four 10-kilogram cartons of spoiled walnuts at a sweets factory. Tracing the supply chain, they seized an additional 62 cartons at a warehouse in the city center. Officials said the walnuts’ owner had planned to supply them to confectionery factories. All the spoiled walnuts were destroyed, and legal action is being taken against the owner.

Azad Nabi, a health representative from the Sulaymaniyah municipal inspection teams, told 964media, “Any sweets factory that uses spoiled walnuts will be fined in a way that ensures they will not repeat the violation at the same location.”
