Mother arrested after 10-year-old son dies from strangulation
MUTHANNA — A 10-year-old boy died in the Al-Suwair district, east of Muthanna governorate, after his mother tied him with a rope to a window in an attempt to pressure him into studying, leading to his death by strangulation, authorities said.
Security officials said the mother confessed to her actions after initially denying responsibility.
“We were informed of the death of a child in Al-Suwair district, and after investigation it was found to be a case of homicide following the mother’s confession,” a security source told 964media. “Initially, she denied responsibility.”
“We identified rope marks around the child’s neck,” the source said. “His mother claimed at first that her son had committed suicide, but later admitted her role in the accidental killing, explaining that she tied him to the window as a form of punishment and to encourage him to study.”
The source added that information gathered during the investigation indicated the mother suffers from psychological illnesses and disorders. She has been referred to a judge to complete legal procedures.
