Short circuit

Fire destroys Khanaqin nursery, causing $30,000 in damages

KHANAQIN — A fire caused by an electrical short circuit heavily damaged a plant nursery in the Jalawa neighborhood of Khanaqin district on Wednesday, resulting in more than $30,000 in losses, the owner said.

Ghaith Hassan, who owns the nursery near the Alwan bridge, told 964media the blaze broke out around noon and quickly engulfed the facility. “Less than a week ago, we brought in new supplies worth over $10,000,” he said.

The fire destroyed the entire hall along with all the plants inside, and flames spread to tall trees in an adjacent garden, Hassan said.

Witnesses said the fire spread in under three minutes and was large enough to require three fire trucks to bring it under control.
