20 Sesbania trees

Students in Najaf plant trees to promote green spaces and environmental awareness

NAJAF, October 19 — In the neighborhood of Makrama in Najaf, students planted 20 trees on Maktab Al-Rashid Street as part of an initiative to increase green spaces and raise awareness about their importance. They also encouraged the replication of this experience in other areas and neighborhoods.

A group of first and second-year middle school students from Al-Sharif Al-Ridha Private School purchased 20 “Sesbania” seedlings from their daily allowances and planted them in the central median of Maktab Al-Rashid Street, north of Najaf.

Ahmed Hassan, one of the students, explained:

“My classmates and I, in coordination with our school’s guide, participated in planting the central median of Maktab Al-Rashid Street after it was recently paved. We bought the seedlings from our daily allowances, and we invite our peers from other schools to take a similar step to raise awareness about the importance of gardening for a healthy environment.”

Wissam Al-Zurigawi, the director of education in Najaf, said:

“Students from Al-Sharif Al-Ridha School will be honored by the Director of Education in Najaf in appreciation of their efforts. We hope that other students will learn from these commendable actions. The School Health and Environment Department has launched the ‘For a Clean Environment’ campaign, which includes several Najaf schools, with the aim of teaching students how to plant seedlings and flowers and preserve their sustainability.”
