Mosul hosts largest graduation ceremony for Nineveh universities
MOSUL — Joyful cheers and emotional embraces filled the air as Mosul hosted its largest university graduation ceremony, bringing together more than 1,000 students from public and private universities across Nineveh governorate.
Held at Al-Qabas College in the city’s eastern Arab neighborhood, the celebration drew families, university officials, and members of parliament, honoring academic achievement across Iraq.
“This was the biggest and most inclusive graduation ceremony for students from all universities in Nineveh,” said Mustafa Fadel, a faculty member. “It was held on the grounds of Al-Qabas College and included participants from various universities. More than 1,000 students took part, along with their families.”
The event was organized by young volunteers from Mosul and was free to attend — a gesture reflecting grassroots commitment to education and civic unity.
Masara Basim, a civil engineering graduate from the University of Mosul, described the event as emotional and deeply meaningful.
“It’s a beautiful feeling after so much effort and hard work — after 12 years of struggle. Thanks to our families, we are now celebrating this moment,” she told 964media. “I hope everyone leaves happy from this special ceremony. After graduation, I plan to help rebuild Iraq, and especially Mosul, after everything the city has been through.”
Basim said the gathering was not just a celebration but an opportunity to connect with students from other institutions. “I’m really happy because we met students from all over Nineveh. Our families are happy, too.”
Mustafa Nabras, a student from Kirkuk, echoed her sentiment. “The celebration was amazing. It brought together students from several universities in Nineveh,” he said. “We thank everyone who made it happen and Al-Qabas College for hosting. The event was free thanks to the youth of Mosul.”
He added that Mosul continues to lead the way in cultural and social unity. “Mosul always brings people together from across Iraq — Kirkuk and other governorates. This was a perfect example of that spirit.”
