Iraq’s largest university theater festival to launch in Kirkuk
KIRKUK — Dozens of universities from across Iraq will gather in Kirkuk this month to stage theatrical performances as part of the country’s largest university theater festival. The event, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, will be hosted for the first time by Kirkuk’s Kitabat University College.
Nearly 40 universities are expected to participate in the festival, which begins April 13 and runs for five days. “The festival has been held for several years, but this time we worked hard to bring it to Kirkuk,” said Najad Najm, the festival’s supervisor, speaking to 964media. “All performances will be held at Kitabat University’s main hall in the city.”
So far, 20 universities have confirmed their attendance, with more expected to join in the next two days, including both public and private institutions. Najm said the event is directly supported by Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education and will conclude with awards presented to the best performances.
In its 2014 edition, the University of Mosul won first place in Iraq in the University Theater Festival, which was held in Babil governorate with the participation of 27 Iraqi universities.
