Hailstorm injures five in Soran’s Rawanduz, three hospitalized with head trauma

RAWANDUZ — Five people suffered head injuries Saturday during a severe hailstorm in Rawanduz, part of Erbil’s Soran Autonomous Administration, according to local health officials. Three of the victims sustained serious injuries and were treated at the local hospital.

Dr. Sapan Qader, director of Rawanduz Hospital, told 964media that the facility received five cases of hail-related head injuries, all involving individuals over the age of 20.

He said additional cases had been reported but not all reached the hospital.

Hospital staff described the injuries as unusual, noting that hailstorms of this intensity—strong enough to cause head trauma—had not been seen in the area in recent years.
