Worker dies in fall at construction site in Duhok
DUHOK — A 26-year-old worker died Wednesday after falling from a building at a residential construction site in Duhok’s KRO neighborhood, local labor officials said.
Wlat Ozmani, head of the Workers’ Syndicate in Duhok, confirmed the incident to 964media. “The body is currently at Duhok Forensic Medicine for examination,” he said.
The worker, identified as a Kurd from Turkey, fell from the seventh floor of the building, Ozmani added.
Similar workplace fatalities have been reported across the Kurdistan Region in recent weeks.
On March 18, an electricity worker in Batifa District, Duhok Governorate, was electrocuted on the job, and a colleague was injured. Earlier, on March 6, a construction worker died after falling from scaffolding in the Sirwan neighborhood of Kalar District, Sulaymaniyah Governorate.
Between January and August 2024, the Kurdistan Construction Workers’ Organization recorded at least 17 worker fatalities in Sulaymaniyah, nine in Erbil and eight in the Garmian region. The organization cited poor safety standards, lack of protective equipment and inadequate training as key factors. Common causes of death included falls, electrocution, structural collapses, machinery accidents and severe bleeding.
