Man killed, another injured in debt dispute ambush

WASIT — A man in his 50s was shot and killed and his relative injured during an ambush while attempting to collect a debt in a rural area north of the Al-Dabouni subdistrict, according to a security source.

The victim, Salam Majid Al-Dalbouhi, was from the center of Al-Dabouni and had traveled with a relative to a location near the shrine of Sayyid Talib, situated between Al-Dabouni and the Al-Zubaydiyah district.

“The perpetrators had asked him to meet there to repay a sum of money they owed him,” the source told 964media. “While they were waiting, Al-Dalbouhi and his relative were ambushed and shot with a handgun.”

Al-Dalbouhi died at the scene, while his companion was injured but managed to escape and notify authorities.

The attackers, suspected to be members of the same Al-Dalabha tribe as the victim, fled the area. Preliminary investigations suggest they intentionally lured Al-Dalbouhi to the remote site under the pretense of repayment.
