Duhok teacher spends Ramadan days cleaning local green spaces

DUHOK — A teacher in Duhok Governorate has been voluntarily cleaning public areas outside the city during Ramadan, spending more than six hours each day on the effort.

Sadiq Jalaladin, an art teacher with 12 years of experience at Tanahi High School for Boys in Semel district, told 964media that his initiative began in 2024 after a school trip exposed him and his students to an area filled with trash.

“Before Eid Al-Fitr last year, we went on a school trip and found the site covered in garbage. Seeing that, we decided to clean it up together,” he said.

Jalaladin explained that his commitment to environmental preservation and his love for his homeland motivated him to continue the effort, focusing on cleaning areas around the city. He collects between 20 to 30 large bags of waste daily and encourages residents to keep their surroundings clean after picnics and outings.
