Iraqi agriculture ministry to unveil over 100 investment opportunities at May forum

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Ministry of Agriculture announced Saturday it will unveil more than 100 investment opportunities at the Iraqi Investment Forum scheduled for May, focusing on projects aimed at boosting domestic production and agricultural exports.

Deputy Agriculture Minister Mahdi Suhur told the Iraqi News Agency the forum will showcase investments in livestock production, plant cultivation, and agricultural mechanization.

“The most valuable investment opportunities involve agricultural marketing, including the establishment of sorting, packaging, and grading facilities for farm products,” Suhur said. “There will also be investment openings for companies specializing in exporting surplus agricultural products outside Iraq.”

He added the forum will emphasize livestock-related projects, including milk collection centers, dairy processing plants, and other animal-based industries.

The ministry also plans to present investment opportunities in pesticide factories, veterinary vaccine and medicine manufacturing plants, and advanced farming techniques such as vertical agriculture. Additional projects include cattle breeding and fattening operations.

The ministry said these projects are economically viable because Iraq has abundant raw materials, a skilled local workforce, and robust domestic and international markets for agricultural products. The surplus in plant and animal products further strengthens export potential.

“All the projects featured in this forum will incorporate modern agricultural technology, which will help strengthen Iraq’s economy by generating revenue and increasing foreign currency reserves through agricultural exports,” Suhur said.

He emphasized advanced technology will be crucial for achieving agricultural self-sufficiency in Iraq.

“This will lead to a modernized agricultural industry that integrates plant and animal production with mechanization and complements the food processing industry, ensuring that Iraq’s agricultural output is fully utilized,” he added.
