Iraqi Ministry of Health distributes electric wheelchairs in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH — The Iraqi Ministry of Health has distributed 31 electric wheelchairs to individuals with disabilities in Sulaymaniyah as part of ongoing efforts to improve mobility for citizens in need.

Saman Latif, spokesperson for the Sulaymaniyah Health Directorate, told 964media, “After forming a specialized medical committee and coordinating with the KRG’s pharmaceutical board, 31 electric wheelchairs were distributed to individuals with disabilities in Sulaymaniyah.”

Latif added that the wheelchairs, provided by Baghdad, come with a five-year warranty covering operation and maintenance and were handed over after all necessary procedures were completed.

This distribution is one element of a broader government initiative to assist people with disabilities across Iraq. On June 5, 2024, Iraq’s Prime Minister allocated 400 assistive devices for residents in Sulaymaniyah, including 140 wheelchairs, 150 hearing aids, and 200 white canes for the visually impaired.

The ministry’s latest effort follows an earlier private donation of 30 electric wheelchairs by a philanthropist, which were distributed to beneficiaries just a day before.
