Al-Hakim affirms ‘absolute rejection’ of displacing the Palestinian people in meeting with Egyptian FM

NEWSROOM — Ammar Al-Hakim, leader of Iraq’s Hikma Movement, met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Wednesday during a visit to Cairo, where he affirmed opposition to the displacement of Palestinians and support for Egypt’s role in addressing the issue. Al-Hakim met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi yesterday as part of his visit to Egypt.

“We reaffirmed our absolute rejection of attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land and infringe upon their rights,” Al-Hakim’s office said in a statement. He also called on the international community to “uphold justice and support the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.”

Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump proposed relocating Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, even suggesting that the U.S. could “take over” and redevelop the Gaza Strip. This proposal was met with widespread condemnation.

On Iraq, he described the country as experiencing a “phase of recovery and political, social, security, and service stability” and commended the Iraqi government’s role in infrastructure development.

Statement from Ammar Al-Hakim’s office:

During our visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt, we met this morning with the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, where we reaffirmed our absolute rejection of attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land and infringe upon their rights. We also reiterated our support for Egypt’s important efforts in countering these attempts and called on the international community to uphold justice and support the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

On a bilateral level, we commended the clear progress in relations between the two brotherly countries and called for further efforts to strengthen this historical relationship through coordination on various levels, particularly within regional and international organizations. This, in turn, contributes to reinforcing Arab decision-making and creating opportunities amid rapid global changes.

Together with His Excellency the Minister, we reaffirmed our commitment to the security and stability of Syria and the importance of ensuring that the Syrian people have the opportunity to shape their future in a way that guarantees their prosperity. We also condemned the Israeli attacks on Syria and stressed the need for firm international positions to preserve Syrian sovereignty.

We praised the efforts of Egyptian diplomacy in bridging differences between regional parties, addressing regional issues, and seeking solutions based on the principle of preserving the national state and the rights of peoples to a dignified life.

Regarding Iraq, we affirmed that the country is witnessing a phase of recovery and political, social, security, and service stability, and we commend the role of the Iraqi government in providing services and infrastructure.
