Car veers off Hafiz Bridge in slippery conditions

SORAN — A family vehicle from Erbil skidded off Hafiz Bridge near Soran city after traveling at high speed on icy roads, Karwan Mirawadeli, director of Soran Civil Defense, said.

Video footage captured the car falling from the bridge before stopping short of plunging into the Hafiz River. Two passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

“Our teams responded immediately to the scene,” Mirawadeli said. Rescue operations are underway to recover the stranded vehicle.

Heavy snowfall has disrupted traffic in parts of the Soran Autonomous Administration, prompting authorities to warn residents and drivers about hazardous road conditions caused by ice. Local officials have urged caution to prevent further accidents.
