On the rise
Nearly 1 million travelers cross Haji Omaran border in 11 months
CHOMAN — Nearly one million people have traveled through the Haji Omaran International Border Crossing over the past 11 months, according to officials in Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province, who say the figure is on the rise.
“From March 21, 2024, until now, 3.8 million travelers have traveled through the borders of West Azerbaijan, and out of that number, 982,971 people entered and exited via the Tamarchin [Haji Omaran] International Border Crossing,” said Arsalan Shukri, director of roads and urban development in West Azarbaijan Province, speaking to the IRNA news agency.
He added that tourism between Iran and the Kurdistan Region has climbed significantly compared with previous years.
Located about 25 kilometers from the Choman District and 11 kilometers from the city of Piranshahr in Iran, the Haji Omran crossing is considered one of the region’s most important commercial gateways linking the Kurdistan Region and Iran.
