Sabah Al-Shammari: a passion for history and Egypt’s political landscape

NINEVEH – Historian Sabah Raja Al-Shammari has devoted his career to modern Arab history, focusing on Egypt’s foreign relations. He has published multiple books and research papers and has participated in international conferences.

Born in 1976 in Abu Khashab, a village in Sinjar, Al-Shammari earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Mosul in 2000. He later received a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in modern history from the University of Tikrit.

“I have many published research papers in academic journals, as well as articles in various newspapers and magazines,” he told 964media.

Al-Shammari recently attended the Mecca Conference for Humanities and Social Sciences in January 2025. “I have received numerous certificates of appreciation and scientific awards in recognition of my work,” he said.

“I am passionate about reading books, especially those on history and religion, and I aspire to publish new works in the future,” he added.

Among his key publications are “Egyptian Foreign Policy Under Ismail Fahmy Until 1978” and “French-Egyptian Relations 1981-2011,” both published in Cairo. “I presented both books at the Najaf International Book Fair in February 2025,” he said.

“My focus on Egypt in most of my writings stems from my specialization in Arab history, as I examined Egyptian politics and foreign relations in both my master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation,” he explained.

Al-Shammari remains committed to writing about Egypt and broader regional politics. “I believe Egypt holds great importance on both the Arab and international levels,” he said.
