Petrichor Organization identifies 32 Yazidi victims of ISIS terror through DNA testing

NINEVEH — The Petrichor Organization for Human Rights announced today that DNA testing has confirmed the identities of 32 Yazidi individuals whose remains were exhumed from mass graves and sent to Baghdad for forensic analysis.

The victims, originally from the central Sinjar district and nearby areas, were among those killed by ISIS when the group overran the region in 2014.

Khairi Ali, director of the Petrichor Organization, told 964media that the true identities of the 32 individuals were officially released today after undergoing DNA verification. “The remains will soon be returned to Sinjar and buried in a designated cemetery,” Ali said.

According to the published list, two of the 32 identified victims were women—Zarifa Khalaf and Shirin Ali Yousif.

The organization’s data also reveals that 93 mass graves containing Yazidi remains have been discovered to date. Of these, 55 graves have been excavated, yielding 750 recovered remains, while 38 graves remain untouched. Despite the extensive recovery efforts, 242 victims from the excavated sites have yet to be identified.
