Zakho man gifts $10,000 and 100 Roses to his partner

ZAKHO — A young man in Zakho marked Valentine’s Day with an unusually lavish gesture, sending 100 roses and a $10,000 cash gift to his partner through a local florist. The florist, who arranged the delivery, said that while Valentine’s Day presents typically range from 500,000 Iraqi dinars ($333) to 4 million dinars ($2,667), this was the first time anyone had gifted such a large sum.

“Feb. 14 is a day dedicated to love and affection,” said Sadiq Ismail, a florist and designer in Zakho. “This is the first time someone has gifted a full $10,000 stack for Valentine’s Day.” He added that many people use the occasion to express their feelings in unique ways. “Some choose roses and decorations, while others prefer extravagant gifts like an iPhone 16, gold jewelry, or other luxurious items to show their affection,” he said.

Meanwhile, another florist, Dana Nizar, shared a different high-end display of affection in Erbil. Nizar said a woman prepared a gift of 400 red roses and $7,500 in bills for her partner. “There is always demand for flowers, but on Valentine’s Day, the demand skyrockets—especially for red roses,” Nizar told 964media.
