PM Al-Sudani to Maysan officials: ‘create a favorable environment for private sector expansion’
MAYSAN — Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met Saturday with the governor of Maysan, the provincial council chair, and other council members to address the governorate’s service, security, and economic conditions.
During the meeting, Al-Sudani announced a series of directives aimed at accelerating key development projects and addressing pressing local needs. The discussions focused on infrastructure improvements, including ongoing water and sewage projects in the governorate’s central areas and administrative units.
Al-Sudani also emphasized the importance of enhancing security to create a “favorable environment” for private sector investment.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today, Saturday, with Maysan Governor Mr. Habib Dhaher Al-Fartousi, Provincial Council Chair Mr. Mustafa Dhaeer Al-Muhammadawi, and council members, in the presence of several advisors.
The meeting reviewed the service, security, and economic conditions in the governorate, along with the progress of key projects across its districts and subdistricts.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani directed the completion of ongoing projects within specified timelines, with a particular focus on water and sewage projects in the governorate center and its affiliated administrative units. He also instructed the commencement of construction on five major bridges over the Tigris River, the development of main and secondary roads connecting districts and subdistricts, the construction of a building for the College of Medicine at Maysan University, and the preparation of a comprehensive design for the new university campus.
Discussions also addressed the importance of enhancing security stability in the governorate, recognizing its pivotal role in advancing the economic landscape through investment and developmental initiatives. The Prime Minister emphasized creating a favorable environment for private sector expansion, generating new job opportunities, and attracting investors for strategic projects, including: The Maysan Refinery with a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day, A petrochemical plant, The establishment of Al-Amarah International Airport.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani underscored the importance of maximum efforts to implement the plans outlined in the government program. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the local government and the provincial council to ensure administrative success, improve services and living conditions, and deliver tangible benefits for citizens.
