Baghdad police arrest suspect in Za’faraniya shooting incident

BAGHDAD — Baghdad Rusafa Police announced Saturday the arrest of a suspect involved in firing shots during a dispute on Al-Ma’ahad Street in Za’faraniya. Authorities confirmed the seizure of a Kalashnikov rifle and the suspect’s detention.

In a statement, police said the security forces “arrested an individual who fired shots during a quarrel, causing panic among residents.”

The arrest occurred during a routine patrol in the area after officers heard gunfire. “The central control center was notified, and officers quickly responded to the source of the gunfire. Following a chase, the suspect was apprehended, and a Kalashnikov rifle was confiscated,” the statement added.

The suspect has been detained, and legal proceedings are underway.
