Syrian FM invites KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to visit Damascus

NEWSROOM — The Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaybani on Thursday at Davos.

The meeting, according to a readout by the KRG, aims to improve bilateral relations and address regional challenges.

The high-level meeting focused on Syria’s current situation, with the Syrian foreign minister outlining the new administration’s “efforts” to “restore” stability and provide public services. A key outcome of the discussions was an invitation extended by the Syrian Foreign Minister for Prime Minister Barzani to visit Damascus.

Barzani reciprocated by emphasizing the importance of maintaining “Syria’s peace and stability”, offering support to their “Syrian brothers and sisters,” with a particular focus on protecting the rights of Kurdish people in Syria.

Today, Thursday, Jan. 23, Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government met with Syria’s Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shaybani, in Davos.

During the friendly meeting, they discussed Syria’s overall situation, the development of bilateral relations, and the latest regional changes and its implications.

The Syrian Foreign Minister provided a brief overview of the current situation in Syria and the efforts of the new administration to restore stability, security, and deliver public services to citizens.

The Syrian Foreign Minister indicated that Kurds are our brothers and sisters and an important and authentic component of Syria, and we assure that their rights will be protected.

He also extended an invitation for KRG Prime Minister to visit Damascus, expressing hope to see him in the Levant in the near future.

Prime Minister Barzani affirmed the importance of maintaining Syria’s peace and stability, stressing that they are ready to offer all necessary support and assistance to their Syrian brothers and sisters.

Both sides agreed on the need to protect the rights of all components of Syria, including the Kurdish people.

In another part of the discussions, President Masoud Barzani’s efforts to bring Kurdish parties closer together and ensure the security and stability of Syria were highly praised.
