Aiming to enter local market
Two agricultural engineers in Salah Al-Din produce locally grown mushrooms
SALAH AL-DIN — Two agricultural engineers, Basim Al-Mukadami and Omar Al-Badrani, have successfully cultivated what they describe as “high-quality” mushrooms in a greenhouse in Sheikh Jameel, part of Salah Al-Din’s Dujail district.
The pair, who graduated from the College of Agriculture at Tikrit University in 2023, have named their venture “Al-Mohandis”, or The Engineer. They aim to produce locally grown mushrooms that can rival imported varieties in taste, quality and price.
Using organic methods and avoiding chemical inputs, the project has achieved a production rate of 25 kilograms per square meter across four harvesting cycles. The mushrooms are expected to reach local markets soon.
“After graduating from the college and training in mushroom cultivation and production techniques, my colleague Omar and I applied this knowledge to create this project,” Al-Mukadami told 964media.
“We’ve succeeded without relying on chemicals at all, as proven by the unique size and flavor of our mushrooms. I promise the people of the governorate that our product will hit the markets soon,” he added.
Al-Badrani noted that while other commitments sometimes limit his involvement, he remains dedicated to the venture. “I make the most of my free time to support Basim and help achieve our shared goals for Al-Mohandis Farm,” he said.
