Iraqi PM congratulates President Donald Trump on return to office following inauguration

BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani extended congratulations on Tuesday to U.S. President Donald Trump following his inauguration, emphasizing Iraq’s commitment to strengthening partnership and cooperation under the Strategic Framework Agreement.

In his message, Al-Sudani underscored Iraq’s dedication to fostering bilateral relations. “Iraq aspires to strengthen the bonds of cooperation and partnership with the United States within the framework of shared interests,” he said.

The PM highlighted the importance of collaboration to promote stability, security, and development on regional and international levels. He reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to maintaining strategic relations with the U.S., emphasizing “activating and expanding the implementation of all bilateral memorandums of understanding and enhancing security and economic coordination.”

Al-Sudani also stressed Iraq’s focus on principles of mutual respect, including sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and fostering cooperation in cultural, technological, investment, and sustainable development fields.

President Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States yesterday beginning his second term following a political comeback from his loss to Joe Biden in 2020.

The ceremony, held indoors at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda due to cold weather, marked a historic return to office.
