Zine Warte route
Snowfall disrupts traffic on critical route between Erbil’s Soran, Sulaymaniyah’s Raparin administrations
SORAN – Heavy snowfall has created traffic disruptions on the critical Zine Warte route, located in Warte subdistrict, Soran Administration. Local officials call on drivers to avoid using the road to prevent accidents.
Shorsh Hassan, the administrator of the Warte subdistrict, informed 964media that snow began falling in the Warte area early in the Monday morning, accumulating over 5 centimeters on the Zini Warte road as of 11:00 a.m.
The Zini Warte route, a single-lane path through mountainous terrain, connects the Sulaymaniyah’s Raparin and Erbil’s Soran administrations. Frequently in winter, this road is temporary closed due to snowfall.
According to Hassan, the snowy conditions have made it impossible for small vehicles to navigate the road, with only high-clearance and dual-axle vehicles equipped with chains currently able to pass. Should the snowfall continue, it is anticipated that the road will become completely impassable.
Drivers are being urged not to use the road for any reason, as traveling on it under the current conditions is deemed unsafe.
Earlier today, snow and rain have begun across much areas of the Kurdistan Region, creating wintry conditions that are currently welcomed by many.
According to meteorological forecasts, Monday’s skies will remain cloudy with widespread rain across most areas. Mountainous regions are expected to receive snowfall, with heavier precipitation in northern and eastern border areas of the region.
