Crash in Erbil leaves one dead, seven injured

ERBIL — A traffic incident occurred on Saturday, involving a minibus and a car, resulting in one fatality and injuries to seven others.

The incident took place before noon on the road connecting the village of Dwsara Fatah in the Shamamk subdistrict. The [mini]bus collided with the passenger car, leading to the death of the bus driver and injuries to seven individuals.

Speaking to 964media, the Erbil Western Emergency Hospital confirmed the details of the collision, noting that the injured were transported to the hospital. Medical staff described their injuries as mild.

Dwsara Fatah is located in the Shamamk subdistrict, approximately 10 kilometers from Erbil city center.

Traffic incidents remain a major concern in the country. Last week, a gas tanker overturned and collided with a private vehicle near the village of Qoja Balbas on the Makhmour road, south of Erbil. The incident resulted in the death of the tanker driver and left four others injured.

On Jan. 6, four people were killed and two others injured in a crash when a taxi collided with a tractor on the Halabja-Sirwan Main Road.

According to Iraq’s Ministry of Health, 564 injuries were reported nationwide during New Year’s celebrations on January 1, with 203 resulting from traffic accidents.
