Iraqi police in Babil governorate rescue kidnapped girl in coordinated operation
BABIL — Police in Babil governorate have announced the successful rescue of a kidnapped girl and arrested her captors in a neighboring governorate on Wednesday, following a coordinated intelligence and security operation.
In a statement, the Babylon Police Department reported: “The Anti-Crime Division in Babylon, in collaboration with the Department of Technology and Information, managed to rescue a girl who had been kidnapped from the Al-Kifl district.”
The operation was launched after authorities received intelligence regarding the abduction. Security forces intensified their efforts, gathering critical information and pinpointing the victim’s location in a nearby province.
After securing judicial approvals, security forces raided the property where the girl was being held and arrested two suspects involved in the kidnapping.
“The suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime during initial interrogations, and legal measures have been taken against them under Article 421 of the Iraqi Penal Code,” the statement added.
Under Article 421 of the Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 of 1969, kidnapping is an offense punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment, with harsher sentences, including life imprisonment, in cases involving minors, use of force, or threats.
