Motive remains unclear
Two friends arrested for death of young man in Kalar
SULAYMANIYAH — Garmian Police have disclosed details about the killing of a 21-year-old young man in Kalar in Sulaymaniyah’s Garmian Independent Administration.
Authorities confirmed that the victim was killed by two of his friends, who later surrendered to security forces. The motive behind the crime remains unclear as investigations continue.
Ali Jamal Qadouri, the spokesperson for Garmian Police, told 964media: “On Sunday evening, the young man left home and did not return. Following an investigation and search efforts, it was discovered that he was last seen with two of his friends.”
Qadouri explained: “The two friends, aged between 20 and 21, turned themselves in to security forces after realizing their involvement had been discovered. They confessed to killing their friend.”
According to initial investigations, the suspects murdered the victim inside a vehicle. They then drove the car out of Kalar and left it at a car workshop in an attempt to change its color and appearance before selling it.
The police spokesperson added: “After detaining the two suspects, it was revealed that the crime took place in a village outside Kalar. Our security teams worked through the night to locate the body. However, the suspects were so disoriented and unclear about the location that they couldn’t pinpoint it accurately. It wasn’t until early morning that the body was found, showing clear signs of gunshot wounds.”
The victim’s body was handed over to his family today and buried in Kalar. Investigations are ongoing, and the two suspects remain in custody under Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which pertains to premeditated murder.
While the suspects have confessed to the killing, police have not yet determined a clear motive, and further interrogations are underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the crime.
