Body of missing teen recovered from Tigris River in Tikrit after 12 days
SALAH AL-DIN — The body of a 16-year-old boy was recovered on Friday from the Tigris River in Tikrit, Salah Al-Din, after being missing for 12 days.
Ziyad Ajaili, head of the River Rescue Department in Tikrit, told 964media that the boy drowned while falling into the Tigris River nearly two weeks ago.
“Despite harsh weather conditions and cold temperatures, rescue teams continued their search, ultimately locating the body within the river’s waters in the Tikrit. The remains were subsequently transferred to Salah Al-Din Forensic Medicine,” he added.
The victim, identified as a resident of Ajaili area in Salah Al-Din governorate, was reported missing after the incident. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the drowning and have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This marks the fourth drowning incident in Salah Al-Din governorate this month.
