Cultural House in Haditha tells story of Baghdad’s history through book fair
ANBAR – The Cultural House in Haditha, Anbar, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, organized a book fair on Tuesday showcasing dozens of publications from past years. The books highlight the country’s traditions, Baghdad’s history and civilization, and significant historical events. Theoretical, social, and literary books were also presented.
The book fair coincided with the celebration of UN Arabic Language Day on December 18, marking the date in 1973 when Arabic was recognized as one of the United Nations’ official languages. The event also follows Baghdad’s recent selection as the Arab Capital of Tourism for 2025.
Bahaa Yaseen, Director of the Cultural House in Haditha, told 964media, “The exhibition featured a collection of books and titles. Most of the works focus on Baghdad’s history, customs, traditions, and the political eras it has witnessed.”
Khalaf Dlef, Deputy Head of the Anbar Writers and Authors Union, emphasized the importance of such events, stating, “The book fair represents a significant step in connecting readers with knowledge and publications from Baghdad to Haditha. I encourage officials to adopt similar initiatives to promote cultural and historical awareness.”
Shaher Mahdi, a local journalist, noted the cultural significance of the event. “This exhibition reflects the high cultural level of Haditha and its reading-loving community. We observed a wide variety of titles, including religious, social, historical, and philosophical works, as well as numerous novels by local and international authors.
“We hope such events continue to revive the importance of books and reading, which expand minds and push society forward.”
Mohammed Owaid Al-Sayer, a teacher at Anbar University, praised the initiative, “The event garnered a lot of interest, and I extend my gratitude to Director Bahaa Yaseen for this distinguished cultural and academic effort.”
