Falih Al-Fayyadh: ‘Iraq has not interfered in Syrian affairs or those of any other country’
ANBAR — Iraq is committed to supporting Syria’s stability and refraining from interfering in its internal affairs, according to Falih Al-Fayyadh, head of the Popular Mobilization Forces.
Al-Fayyadh made the remarks during a security forum held for tribal leaders and community figures in Anbar on Friday.
In his address, Al-Fayyadh emphasized the importance of tribal customs in overcoming challenges, stating that “tribal customs are an essential factor, as we have seen in facing many challenges”.
He also warned that disarming the Syrian state while allowing armed groups to remain poses a threat to regional stability. He added that Iraq, along with other Arab countries, is working to help Syria achieve stability.
Excerpts from Al-Fayyadh’s speech:
The people of Anbar are most familiar with the ISIS era, during which they suffered greatly. Our security forces are in a different position today compared to 2014.
The Popular Mobilization Forces have become a significant power representing all of Iraq and confronting any threat to the country.
We will be as decisive as the edge of a sword against anyone seeking to destabilize the security of Anbar Province. Security strength means nothing without cohesion with the community.
Terrorism is the vilest tool used to oppress societies. Tribal customs are an essential factor, as we have seen in facing many challenges.
We will not allow the first word of evil, and we must bury any wicked plan that poses a threat.
The disarmament of the Syrian state while leaving armed groups intact poses a threat.
Iraq today is vigilant against any challenges that could undermine the victory over terrorism. We hope the ship of stability will anchor in Syria after a decade of challenges.
We are working with Arab countries to help Syria achieve stability and preserve its territorial integrity. Iraq has not interfered in Syrian affairs or those of any other country; this is not our approach.
