Four drug dealers sentenced to life imprisonment
ANBAR — The Anbar Criminal Court sentenced four drug dealers to life imprisonment on Monday after authorities seized 17 kilograms of Captagon pills concealed inside a car tire.
According to a statement from the judiciary’s media office, the convicts were found in possession of 100,000 Captagon pills, weighing 17 kilograms. The drugs were hidden inside a vehicle tire and were intended for trafficking and distribution.
The court’s verdict was issued under Article 28 (First) of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017, in conjunction with Articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which includes life imprisonment for drug trafficking.
Since January, Iraqi authorities have arrested nearly 8,000 individuals on drug-related charges and confiscated approximately 2.2 tons of various narcotics.
By August, the Ministry of Interior announced that courts had issued 140 death sentences and 500 life sentences to convicted drug traffickers.
