Migratory seagulls transform Musayyib bridge into a scenic haven
BABIL — The iconic Musayyib Bridge, in Babil province, has become a sanctuary for migratory seagulls flocking to the lush orchards surrounding the area. Locals and vendors have established a tradition of feeding the birds, attracting them to the banks of the Euphrates near Musayyib’s Corniche.
Bird enthusiasts in the area collect food scraps and spend time feeding the seagulls during their daily routines. Some even claim the birds recognize them and respond to their signals.
“We feed these birds daily, and they’ve grown familiar with our presence,” Haidar Faleh, a fish vendor, told 964media. “They gather around us as soon as we arrive at the riverbanks. Their presence enhances the beauty of the Corniche and could even attract families to the area.”
Ali Al-Jubouri, a butcher, explained the birds’ migration patterns.
“These birds migrate to the Euphrates in Musayyib during this time of year. We feed them leftover food that we collect, and they’ve learned to expect us,” Al-Jubouri said.
He added that the seagulls gather every afternoon between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to take their food.
“The scene is very calming and beautiful. Everyone wishes for a similar sight in their own area,” he said.
