Man allegedly kills mother and sister in Erbil’s Shaqlawa, surrenders to authorities

ERBIL – A suspect allegedly shot and killed his mother and sister in Erbil’s Shaqlawa district on Sunday before surrendering to local authorities, Erbil Security says.

Karwan Karimkhan, the head of Shaqlawa, confirmed to 964media that the tragic incident occurred earlier in the day. “The suspect used a firearm to kill both his mother and sister,” he said. “As of now, the motive for this harrowing event remains unknown, and investigations by the police and security agencies are ongoing.”

In an official statement, the Erbil Security Directorate disclosed that the suspect, identified by the initials R.S.F., surrendered to authorities at Shaqlawa Hospital after the shooting. “Shortly before this tragic event, the suspect fired on his mother and sister, leading to their deaths,” the statement read.

Authorities have launched an investigation, while local residents expressed shock at the crime.
