Campaigns against gender-based violence launched across Kurdistan region

KURDISTAN REGION — Various initiatives have been launched across the Kurdistan Region as part of the ongoing global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign to combat violence against women, targeting villages, schools, and communities to raise awareness and provide education on the issue.

The National Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence, now in its third day, has seen the region’s departments on combatting violence against women and organizations hosting diverse activities.

In Sulaymaniyah, the Directorate for Combating Violence Against Women and Families, in collaboration with the Asuda Organization, organized a seminar in Siyamewa village in Penjwen district.  The event, titled Justice for All, aimed to educate mothers of students on domestic violence and sustaining family ties.

Meanwhile, in Erbil, the Directorate for Combating Violence Against Women and Families focused on educating young women about legal protections against harmful practices, including the misuse of technology in a seminar at the Shapol Secondary School.

In Raparin, the Directorate of Combatting Violence Against Women visited the Jarawe Secondary School to conduct a seminar under the theme Healthy Education: A Key to a Nonviolent Society. The event engaged students and teachers, discussing ways to prevent violence and foster safe educational environments.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an international initiative aimed at raising awareness and inspiring action to eliminate violence against women and girls. It runs annually from Nov. 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to Dec. 10, Human Rights Day.
