Iraq welcomes Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, calls for end to Gaza violence
BAGHDAD — The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it welcomes the recently announced ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, hoping that this agreement will help end the violence, destruction, and suffering faced by the Lebanese people.
“Iraq reaffirms its unwavering support for the Lebanese government and its people, emphasizing the importance of enhancing stability in the region,” the ministry stated. “We stress the need for intensified international efforts to prevent further escalation and to ensure a dignified life for the Lebanese people.”
The ceasefire, which took effect early Wednesday, was brokered by the United States and France, aiming to halt over a year of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The agreement includes provisions for Israeli military withdrawal from southern Lebanon and the deployment of Lebanese security forces in the area.
Despite the truce in Lebanon, the situation in Gaza remains dire. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry has called on the international community to take serious and urgent steps to stop the ongoing massacres and attacks against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, urging an end to the escalating humanitarian crisis resulting from continuous military operations.
“Iraq reiterates its steadfast position in supporting all international efforts aimed at achieving stability,” the ministry concluded.
