Following retrial

Court sentences Iraqi TikTok star Umm Al-Lool to six years in prison

BAGHDAD – The Iraqi judiciary has sentenced Iraqi TikTok star and dancer Hadeel Khalid Abdul Rasheed, popularly known as “Umm Al-Lool,” to six years in prison after the Federal Court of Cassation overturned her previous life sentence in early July, and ordered a retrial.

Defense attorney Tariq Al-Shara’ published a statement, saying: “Following the appeal decision which annulled the life sentence ruling, Hadeel Khaled’s trial was conducted this morning. The court has now issued a six-year prison sentence.”

Al-Shara’ expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s decision, describing it as unjust and in violation of the law. “I am not convinced by the court’s ruling. It is an unfair and unlawful decision. I will await the oxygen tube of life—namely, the Court of Cassation,” he added.

Umm Al-Lool was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Rusafa Criminal Court in Baghdad in May after being accused of transporting drugs from Erbil to Baghdad as part of a trafficking network. Earlier, in April, she had received a separate four-month sentence for producing and sharing “indecent content.”

On July 1, an appellate court in Baghdad overturned her life sentence and ordered a retrial.
