Diwaniyah officer builds storybook treehouse for his children, charming the village

DIWANIYAH — In the village of Al-Kaabouri, southwest of Diwaniyah, Colonel Diaa Jazi, a devoted police officer, has fulfilled a lifelong dream by constructing a storybook-like treehouse for his children in the branches of an Albizia tree. The whimsical structure, which has stood resilient through five years of weather changes, has captivated locals with its creative design and durability.

“The idea came to me when I saw my kids climbing the Albizia tree in our yard,” Jazi told 964media. “I wanted to build them a safe space to play.” Using strong wood from crates designed for heavy machinery, Jazi relied on his carpentry skills—a hobby that had already seen him build his own kitchen furniture. Despite his demanding duties in the Ministry of Interior, his passion for woodworking enabled him to complete the project with precision.

Jazi encountered several challenges during construction, including an ailing tree that began shedding its leaves, which he quickly addressed. Weather also posed an obstacle, as windstorms hit the structure before it was completed. Nevertheless, the treehouse endured and can now support up to 10 adults. It features lighting and electricity, and while an air conditioner was recently removed, Jazi plans to add a cooling system next summer.

Local resident Zaid Talal, impressed by the creation, remarked, “We used to dream of having a treehouse like this when we were kids. It’s a beautiful and unique feature in the village, and it attracts people from all around. Even children from neighboring houses come to play.”

The treehouse, a blend of simplicity and creativity, continues to charm both locals and visitors, with many stopping to admire and photograph it. “Even with his busy schedule as a colonel, Uncle Diaa managed to build something amazing for his kids,” Talal added.
