Most of 20,000 donated shoes already distributed in Kalakin village
KHALIFAN — A charity initiative that brought 20,000 pairs of shoes to Kalakin village in Khalifan district is nearly finished, with organizers saying 19,000 pairs have already been taken by families in need.
The distribution began in early November, when several truckloads of shoes were unloaded near the village cemetery and made available for anyone who needed them. Local volunteers helped sort the mixed sizes and maintain order as crowds gathered.
Saeed Mala Anwar, who supervises the effort, said the response has been overwhelming. “Nineteen thousand pairs of shoes have been used, and only a small portion remains,” he told 964media. He said volunteer teams helped keep pace with demand and added, “If no one else comes, we will take the remaining shoes to another village so people there can benefit.”
The campaign is funded by a humanitarian organization that earlier told 964media a donor contributed 15 million dinars (about $10,700) to purchase the shoes. The items were stored temporarily before being distributed.
Organizers say the remaining pairs will continue to be handed out until supplies are exhausted.
