Celebratory gunfire claims man’s life in Najaf

NAJAF, September 26 — A 29-year-old man died in Najaf on Tuesday after he was hit by a stray bullet shot the previous night in a barrage of celebratory gunfire at a local wedding.

Police responded to the incident in the Al-Ansar neighborhood, rushing Zaid Sami to Al-Sadr Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

A security source spoke to 964, stating, “We received a report of a citizen being hit by a stray bullet originating from a wedding celebration in the Al-Ansar neighborhood. The relevant authorities have been instructed to detain the groom pending the surrender of the individual responsible for the firearm’s discharge.”
