Son of local security official injured in Sulaymaniyah café shooting

SULAYMANIYAH – Two people were seriously injured in a shooting late Thursday night at a café in the Sarchinar neighborhood of Sulaymaniyah, including the son of a local security official. Despite an ongoing investigation, police have not yet apprehended the suspects.

The shooting occurred just after midnight outside the café in the busy Sarchinar area. Jamal Gulbakh, father of one of the injured, told 964media, “My son, Bafel, 27, was with a friend when the shooting happened. They were both seriously injured.”

According to Gulbakh, his son had been inside the café when an argument broke out between patrons. “My son tried to intervene, but the situation escalated. He was shot in the face, and his friend was shot in the chest,” he said.

Bafel was taken to Anwar Sheikh Hospital, where a team of six doctors performed surgery to remove a bullet lodged in his brain. Medical staff confirmed that he is now out of danger.

Sarkaut Ahmed, spokesperson for Sulaymaniyah police, confirmed to 964media that the investigation is ongoing. “The injured individuals are now in stable condition,” he said, but no arrests have been made.
