Grenade explosion damages car in central Sulaymaniyah over suspected ‘personal dispute’

SULAYMANIYAH – A grenade explosion under a parked vehicle near the Nali roundabout in central Sulaymaniyah on Wednesday evening damaged the car but left no injuries, local sources reported.

The explosion was initially thought to be a tire blowout, but authorities later confirmed that a grenade had been placed beneath the vehicle. According to witnesses, the incident stemmed from a personal dispute involving the car owner and two men seeking repayment of an outstanding debt. After a confrontation at the owner’s shop, the men allegedly planted the grenade as an act of intimidation.

The explosion blew out all four tires, but no one was harmed in the blast. Security forces are investigating the incident, though they have yet to issue an official statement. Salam Abdulkhaliq, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Security Directorate, declined to comment, telling 964media, “There is nothing significant to discuss at this time.”
