Iraqi, Egyptian, and Jordanian foreign ministers discuss cooperation

BAGHDAD, September 24 — The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, met with his Egyptian and Jordanian counterparts, Sameh Shoukry and Ayman Safadi, in New York on Sunday to discuss avenues of cooperation in areas such as electricity connectivity, renewable energy, telecommunications, trade, and more. They also agreed to convene a tripartite summit in Cairo.

According to a statement from the ministry, received by Network 964:

“In the context of promoting the partnership between the three brethren countries, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Iraq, and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism among them, following up on the outcomes of the last tripartite summit held in Baghdad in June 2021, the Foreign Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, hosted his brothers, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Fuad Hussein, at the Permanent Mission of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United Nations in New York on the sidelines of the High-Level Segment of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The foreign ministers of the three brotherly nations discussed ways to activate cooperation in several economic and political fields. They stressed the importance of completing ongoing projects and proposed new ideas and projects in the areas of electricity connectivity, renewable energy, telecommunications, trade, industry, transportation, healthcare, pharmaceutical industries, housing, and reconstruction. Additionally, they discussed areas related to culture, tourism, youth, sports, as well as security and defense cooperation.

The ministers also addressed the regional situation, emphasizing the importance of achieving security and stability in the region. They discussed various issues, with a focus on the Palestinian cause as the central issue. They underscored the importance of restoring the inalienable Palestinian rights and explored efforts to find a solution to the Syrian crisis, especially through the Arab Contact Group, in a manner that serves the interests of the Syrian people and ends their suffering.

The foreign ministers agreed to continue coordination among themselves in preparation for the upcoming tripartite summit scheduled to be held in Cairo.”
