Suspected drug dealer, security personnel injured in Zakho shootout
ZAKHO – A suspected drug dealer was injured and arrested after a confrontation with security forces in Zakho, a security source told 964media. The incident, which occurred after 7 p.m. today, resulted in a shootout that was heard across the city.
Security forces attempted to arrest the man, leading to three injuries during the encounter. The injuries included the suspected drug dealer and two security personnel.
A police source in Zakho, who asked not to be named, told 964media, “The suspect was previously on the wanted list and had not surrendered to the security forces, leading to the confrontation.”
The injured, including the suspect and two security officers, have been taken to a hospital in Zakho for medical treatment and are under observation.
Iraqi authorities arrested 144 suspected drug traffickers in 2023 as the country deals with what officials have described as an ongoing and developing crisis.
