Iraqi authorities arrest two suspects in killing of Ramadi Power Station director and family

ANBAR — Iraqi authorities arrested two suspects on Sunday in connection with the killing of Ramadi Power Station Director Firas Ubaidi and three members of his family in the Al-Furayha neighborhood of the Al-Baghdadi subdistrict. The attack, which occurred early Saturday morning, claimed the lives of Ubaidi, his wife, and two daughters. A young son survived the brutal assault.

Head of the Security and Defense Committee in Anbar Provincial Council, Saad Ghazi Al-Mohammedi, confirmed that the incident was a criminal act driven by personal disputes and was not linked to terrorism.

Ministry of Interior spokesperson Brig. Gen. Muqdad Miri said in a statement, “Through swift security procedures and rapid police response, a specialized team from the Anbar Police managed to arrest the suspects involved in the murder within hours. The vehicle used in the crime, as well as a handgun, were also seized.”

Miri added that the suspects confessed to the crime, which stemmed from personal conflicts, and assured that legal action is being taken to ensure they face justice.

On Saturday, the family was attacked by unidentified gunmen at their home. Ubaidi, his wife, and two daughters were killed in the assault, while their young son survived. Authorities launched an investigation immediately following the attack, and police confirmed Sunday that it was a criminal incident unrelated to terrorism.

Al-Mohammedi praised the quick and decisive work of Anbar Police and the investigative team for swiftly uncovering the details of the case. “This achievement reflects the efficiency of our intelligence services and the improved security stability in the province, enabling the resolution of such crimes within hours,” he said.
