Emirates Airlines cancels flights to Iraq, Iran, and Jordan

NEWSROOM – Emirates Airlines announced on Thursday the cancellation of all flights to and from Iraq, Iran, and Jordan on October 4 and 5, citing escalating regional tensions.

In a statement, the airline said, “Emirates has cancelled all flights to and from Iraq, Iran, and Jordan on October 4 and 5 due to regional unrest.” Passengers transiting through Dubai with final destinations in these countries will not be permitted to board from their departure points until further notice.

“Impacted customers should contact their booking agents for alternative travel options or reach out to us if they booked directly with Emirates,” the statement added. Travelers were also advised to update their contact details via the ‘Manage Booking’ section to receive timely updates.

Emirates, the Middle East’s largest airline, had previously cancelled flights between Dubai and Beirut until October 8, as several other airlines suspended services to the region.

The cancellations come amid growing tensions after Iran launched approximately 200 missiles, including hypersonic weapons, targeting Israel on Tuesday. Some missiles flew over Jordanian and Iraqi airspace, leading Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to warn that Tehran would face consequences. While Israel considers its response, U.S. President Joe Biden affirmed the United States’ “full support” for its ally but reportedly ruling out any backing for an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Iran, which supports Lebanon’s Hezbollah, has stated it will escalate its response if Israel retaliates.
