Najaf’s 11-year-old artist gains recognition for exceptional talent
NAJAF — Janat Ahmed, an 11-year-old artist from Najaf, has garnered recognition for her exceptional talent in painting, which she began developing at the age of four. Her early exposure to art came from workshops her mother attended, where Janat had the opportunity to draw and color. Her mother noticed her ability to color within the lines, marking the start of her artistic journey.
Supported by her family and the local Ishtar Team, led by Namareq Jawad, Janat’s talent has flourished. She has participated in several festivals and exhibitions, including painting live in front of an audience of 800 people. Despite her growing popularity, Janat has declined offers to sell her paintings, viewing them as personal treasures.
“My talent in painting started when I was four, through workshops my mother attended,” Janat told 964media. “I prefer to keep my paintings special, so I don’t sell them.”
Janat’s aspirations include completing her education and continuing to explore new ideas for her artwork. While she often uses acrylic paints at festivals, she is open to experimenting with other mediums. Her portfolio includes portraits of prominent figures, such as 20th-century Arab poet Muhammad Mahdi al-Jawahiri and Egyptian actor Ahmed Helmy. In addition to painting, Janat is skilled in gymnastics, knitting, and other crafts. She dreams of one day teaching children to paint and helping them discover their talents.
Her mother, Zainab Abdul Amir, said, “We frequently receive invitations for Janat to participate in festivals. I help her select which works to display based on the event, and ensure she has the materials she needs to keep growing her talent.”
Namareq Jawad, director of the Ishtar Team, said, “We saw Janat’s potential as a promising artist when she was just four. Since then, we’ve supported her through festivals and workshops. She once painted live in front of 800 participants.”
