Civil defense worker injured

Fire at Parvez Khan border crossing reportedly leaves driver dead

KALAR — A fire at the Parvez Khan border crossing this evening has reportedly resulted in injuries and the loss of life, although the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed.

The incident involved multiple fuel tankers catching fire, prompting a rapid response from civil defense teams.

According to Naqib Ahmad Hussein, head of the Civil Defense Department at the Parvez Khan border gate, “So far, more than 10 tankers have burned, one driver has lost their life, and a civil defense worker has been injured.”

The situation worsened after one of the tankers reportedly exploded, further spreading the fire. Jabar Ali, head of the Qoratu Fire Station, confirmed that the explosion intensified the crisis, complicating containment efforts.

Authorities are concerned about the ongoing risk of the fire spreading to additional tankers, which are parked in close proximity. Drivers in the area have been urged to evacuate immediately for their safety.

The Parvez Khan border crossing, also known as Parvizkhan, is a key trade route between Iraq and Iran, situated near the town of Qasr-e Shirin in Iran and the district of Kalar in the Kurdistan Region.
