Basra Women’s table tennis team wins Iraqi league championship

ERBIL, September 17 — The Basra Women’s Table Tennis team clinched the title of the Iraqi Table Tennis League after winning the final match against “Gaz Al-Janoub” club.

The competitions commenced last Thursday at the “Akad” hall in Erbil, with the participation of 16 teams, including both men and women.

In the men’s category, eight teams advanced to the third stage, which allows professional players to participate, although the location of the third stage has not yet been determined by the organizing committee.

Aqeel Jabbar, the national team coach, commented on the league, stating that it witnessed intense competition among 16 clubs comprising both men and women. The Basra women’s team secured the first-place title.

He extended congratulations to the second and third-place winners, “Gaz Al-Janoub” and “Nasiriya” clubs, as they will represent Iraq alongside Basra in the Arab Clubs Championship in Beirut.

Nisma Muayad, a player from the Basra club who has won the gold medal in Western Asia, received the award for the best player in the Iraqi league.

Eight men’s teams advanced to the third and final stage of the league, where professionals are allowed to participate. The competition promises to be fierce as teams vie for the top three positions that qualify for the Arab Clubs Championship.
