Carrying his camera with one hand
Photographer overcomes disability to capture Dhuluiya’s daily life
SALAH AL-DIN – Ihab Ahmed, 20, roams the streets of his beloved city of Dhuluiya in Salah Al-Din governorate, capturing the essence of daily life with his Nikon camera. Despite losing a hand in 2015 to an Islamic State explosive remnant while playing in the Al-Bufaraj area, Ahmed never abandoned his passion for photography, which began with his mobile phone.
“I started my passion in photography with a Galaxy A7, and gradually developed my skill. Now I use a camera,” he told 964media. “My painful memories fade away when I see the laughter of children whom I photograph.”
Every evening, Ahmed ventures out to youth gatherings to capture what he sees as regular yet beautiful moments. He immerses himself in the world of photography, focusing on natural areas, playgrounds, and the smiles of children, showcasing the beauty of his city and its people.
Yaqzan Sami, a local resident, highlights the community’s appreciation for Ahmed. “Despite his disability, Ihab shows determination and clear talent in photography, highlighting our city’s beauty professionally,” Sami said.
Ahmed is determined to continue documenting Dhuluiya’s picturesque areas and moments but says he needs support and better photography equipment. Locals like Sami echo his call, urging for support for this young and talented documenter of their city.
